The IRC base ratio is 1 square foot of net free ventilating area per 150 square feet of vented attic floor (1/150). The reduced 1/300 ratio applies only in specific cases: balanced high and low venting, or a Class I or II vapour retarder on the warm side of the ceiling in the cold climate zones.
